3 Exciting Pin Trading Activities for Kids

April 30, 2024

Pin trading isn't just a hobby; it's a journey that sparks creativity, fosters friendships, and imparts invaluable life lessons.

At Infiniti Pins, we're dedicated to nurturing this passion from an early age and understand the importance of engaging in activities for children.

Here are three activities to kindle their love for pin trading:

Pin Trading Scavenger Hunts

scavenger hunt for kids

Embark on exciting pin-trading scavenger hunts within local communities or events.

Create themed lists of pins or specific treasures, challenging kids to seek and trade with fellow collectors. Consider using Easter eggs to hide them in order to avoid losing the pins.

This activity fosters social interaction, strategic thinking, and negotiation skills in young traders.

If you can’t find a pin-trading event nearby, consider hosting the scavenger hunt yourself for your child’s little league team. You can team up with other parents to provide pins.

Here’s how to do it:

scavenger hunt activities

1. Organize the scavenger hunt.

  • Create a theme or a list of pins for children to find and trade.
  • Find the best location to host the hunt be it backyard, park, or favorite ballfield.
  • Schedule the day and time to meet and send out invitations to generate excitement.
  • Gather the pins and fill the Easter eggs. Plastic Easter eggs come in various sizes and designs so consider using eggs decorated with a baseball theme.
  • Arrive early on the day of the big event and hide those pins in fun creative locations. Be sure you write down how many there are, you don’t want to lose any.

2. Give some direction.

  • Designate boundaries within the space and provide maps or clues to guide participants.
  • Pro Tip: For an added challenge, hide clues inside some eggs to guide them to the hard to find pins.

3. Create a supportive space.

  • Encourage teamwork and fair play as kids embark on their trading adventures.
  • When the hunt is done, add to the fun with an impromptu pin trading activity. Kids can trade to make matching sets or just collect their favorites.

Pin Trading Parties

Let the festivities begin with themed pin-trading parties designed to unite kids in their love for collecting.

Whether it's a sports-themed bash or a team party, these gatherings provide the perfect platform for swapping pins, sharing stories, and forging lasting connections within the pin-trading community.

Get ready to immerse your child in a world of fun and friendship!

Here’s how to do it:

pin trading party

1. Plan the party.

Plan themed pin trading parties with decorations, snacks, and activities related to the chosen theme. Theme ideas and activities include:

  • Baseball Bash - play a home run derby game in which the child with the furthest hit or most home runs wins a pin.
  • Superhero Spectacular - have the children perform superhero tasks like jumping over or lifting “buildings”. Pins are rewarded when they “save the day”.
  • Wild Wild West - set up a “shootout” game in which the child has to knock over select items with a Nerf gun or similar to win the prize pins.
  • Carnival Craze - set up carnival-themed games like ring toss or bean bag toss with pins as prizes.

2. Set up the trading area.

Use features like tables or mini booths where kids can showcase their pins and initiate trades. Decorate the tables with themed accessories like streamers, balloons, snacks, pins, and more.

3. Break the ice.

Incorporate icebreaker games or trading challenges to enhance the festive atmosphere and encourage interaction among kids.

Consider an icebreaker game where each child picks a wrapped pin, not initially knowing what kind of pin they have. Once opened, they must describe the pin to others and see if the other party participants can guess which pin they have.

Pin Trading Collector Books

Dive into the world of pin trading by having your child create their own pin collector book for all of their current and future favorite pins.

Provide them with the exciting opportunity to create a personalized place to keep all of their treasured pins safely in one place. They’ll proudly show off their collector book showcasing their most prized pins and potentially creating a chance to trade for new ones.

Here’s how to do it:

collector books

1. Gather your supplies.

Purchase a sturdy, zip-up binder as well as foam sheets to use for pages. Be sure to also pick up whatever fun and colorful supplies your child would want to decorate their binder with. These items could include stickers, foam paint, googly eyes, glitter or metallic paint, photos from pin trading events, and more.

2. Personalize your collector book.

Designate a certain time to work on the scrapbook. Invite pin-trading friends over to decorate their books at the same time. Put together the binder and foam sheets, and incorporate the colorful accessories to make the book unique to your child. Let them go wild and add as much or as little as they’d like.
